DIY Removals Vs. Professional Movers
There are plenty of instances where a DIY removal is not such a bad idea. If you are only moving a relatively short distance and you don’t have tons of stuff, you can probably hire an 8x5m Box Trailer, or even a smaller equipment trailer and a cargo trolley to get the job done with a couple of strong mates to give you a helping hand. There is also the option of hiring a small pantec truck which can be driven on a car licence. If you choose this option, shop around and get one with an electric tail lift. This will save you heaps of lifting. On the other hand, if you are moving a long distance or even interstate, it makes sense to use a professional removal company.
If you are trying to save money, don’t let the tricky problem of heavy furniture deter you from doing the job yourself. It’s easy to hire equipment such or electric stair climbing trolley or a piano trolley. This makes life so much easier when you need to move heavy items from A to B or into the back of a ute or trailer.
Never try and lift heavy furniture in your own. It’s all too easy to end up with a serious back injury. Ask some friends to help you with the heavy lifting. Items such as a large fridge can be moved using a stair climbing trolley, which you can hire for a weekend. It’s possible that some items will be easier to get out by going over a balcony or veranda. Equipment specific for this task such as a duct lifter may make this process both easier and safer. If you’re moving a business and have equipment stored on pallets, a pallet trolley can be used in combination with a forklift to move them in bulk.
Tetris is the Key
Have a plan for what goes where on the day. Heavy furniture and large items need to be loaded first. They should be secured with ropes and/or straps individually to prevent any movement once you are on the road. You can then stack smaller items around big pieces of furniture.
